About the Hampton Roads Chess Club (HRCC)
We have casual chess, USCF rated tournament chess, and occasional other activities. Club Director is Robbie Jackson. Tournament registration must be done online — no cash is accepted onsite.
Who can participate?
HRCC is open to advanced scholastic players and adults of varying abilities. HRCA membership is required for regular participants, and USCF membership is required for rated tournaments.
Note: This club is not designed for beginner/rookie youth players. Please see our class offerings and HRSCC program for other options

King’s Grant Presbyterian Church – Fellowship Hall & Connection Point

When does HRCC meet?
Time: 7:30PM – 9:30PM Tuesday evenings.
Club is on break for summer, with a limited schedule.
Next meeting will be on July 21 and every Tuesday in August.
New season begins in September!
- Please arrive by 7:15PM — doors will remain locked. Late arrivals should use Fellowship Hall doors around back.
- Tournament games start promptly at 7:30 PM.
- HRCA Policy is that online registration is required for all tournament games. Credit or debit card is required and is processed securely through Square.
- Onsite cash payments are not accepted.
- HRCA membership is required for regular tournament participants and must be valid through the end of tournament.
- US Chess membership is required for all rated tournaments and must be valid through end of the tournament.
- The Connection Point is available for casual play for those not playing in the weekly tournaments.
- Prize winnings must be claimed within 30 days of event end.
- Cash prizes are paid via Venmo, Zelle, or PayPal. If you need to claim a prize, please complete our Google Form.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation with our registration policies. Our Club Directors are following established HRCA procedures and appreciate your kindness and patience as they work to provide a smooth experience for everyone.

Are any memberships required? What is the cost?
The club is free to HRCA members to attend for casual play. Visitors are welcome to check us out for free!
Regular participants are required to join HRCA. Membership supports the costs to run the club and tournaments.

Club tournaments have low entry fees, and many have prizes. Most of our tournaments are rated and require both HRCA membership and USCF membership. Memberships may be purchased or renewed online. Memberships must be valid through the conclusion of the event.
Is Equipment Provided?
The club has full sets, boards, and clocks. It is not necessary to bring your own equipment unless you prefer your personal set and clock.
